Off the Road
I came off the road in mid-February, to begin making local deliveries in
the Boise and western Idaho region. This is a big change in my lifestyle.
I'm now staying home, and feel that I have my life back.
It's taken several weeks to get used to man-handling furniture and carpet,
and making deliveries with a 53-foot trailer in the narrow alleys and small
lots of local dealers.
It's taken several weeks to rest up. Living on the road is long-term exhausting.
It isn't the physical work, but the accumulated stress of living in a truck
cab, camping in truck stops, coping with the big road, and making deadlines.
The days become weeks, and then months, and the fatigue adds up. After a
few years, your head becomes twisted around to an unnatural life style.
It takes a while to unscramble your head, and readjust to a life that everyone
else takes for granted.
